Learn tips on how to keep your family safe during Halloween acitvities.
Be safe. Be seen. Wear glow sticks and reflectors while trick or treating. You can also carry a flashlight to help cars, bikes, or other people see you.
If a child is under 12 years old, a parent or guardian must stay with the child to help keep them safe while trick or treating.
Stay in well-lit ares, and only trick or treat at houses where the porch light is on. Teach children to never to never go inside someone's house or car.
Walk on sidewalks, if available. If not, walk facing traffic and as far away from the street as possible. Make eye contact with drivers to make sure they see you.
Always cross the street at intersections, corners, or crosswalks. Follow all traffic signals and signs. Never cross the street between parked cars.
Look left, right, left again, and behind you before crossing the street. Continue looking as you walk, even at a crosswalk.
Keep a look out for cars turning or backing up when you are trick or treating.
Keep your head up and stay alert. Phones, ear buds, headphones, or other electronics can be a distraction and cause you to trip, fall, or miss seeing a car in your path of travel.
A parent or guardian should always check the child's candy to help make sure that it is safe to eat.
