Text of Video: More than 2000 children receive emergency room treatment every year for injuries caused by inserting objects into electrical receptacles. Over 70% of those electrical injuries occur at home, with adults usually in the room. There are also several hundred children treated for fractures, lacerations, contusions, or sprains from tripping over extension cords. In this video you’ll learn about the Safety 1st Outlet Cover and Cord Shortener and how it can prevent injury related to electrical wall outlets and keep feet from getting tangled in electrical cords. Here's how to use it: Turn off the power to the outlet then unplug the lamp, television, or whatever items are in use from the outlet. Remove the existing wall plate. Remove the Safety 1st plate cover from the Safety 1st outlet cover by simultaneously pressing the tabs on each side and pulling. Screw the Safety 1st wall plate over the outlet using the existing screw, making certain that the Safety 1st logo is right side up and facing toward you. Plug the items into the outlet and wrap the cords around the cord shortener area of the wall plate – it’ll accommodate up to four feet of cord – and secure the cords in the hooks at the bottom of the wall plate. Place the plate cover over the wall plate by snapping it over the side tabs. The cords should feed through the bottom of the cover. Restore power to the outlet. The outlet cover and cord shortener is not to be used with appliances of 600 watts or more, and it is not for use with extension cords supporting more than one item each as excess heat may build up. When you are no longer using it, replace the outlet cover and cord shortener with a standard wall plate. Please remember that this product is not a substitute for adult supervision.
